The Voltage Modular Miniverse VCA replicates the unique mojo of the original Mini circuit. It's usable with audio or CV signals.
The idea of a voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) is that an audio or control signal is patched to its input, and externally controlled voltage controlled via its modulation input jacks. This is useful for turning audio or control signals on or off, applying envelope volume curves to sounds, regulating the amount of modulation signals applied to audio signals, and more. A simple analogy would be to think of a water faucet, with the control voltage affecting how much the faucet is opened.
Just like the original Mini VCA, VM Miniverse will impart a warm overdrive when pushed, so be aware of this when patching signals in. For cleaner tones, go easy on incoming signal level.
Inputs, Outputs, and Controls
Fixed Control voltage- Adds or subtracts up to 5V of gain. This works in addition to incoming modulation voltages.
Fixed Modulation- Use this for CV control of the full VCA range. It's intended for use with envelope generator control signals, i.e. Miniverse Contour or other envelope generator modules.
Variable Modulation jack and attenuverter- Used for externally modulating the VCA level. The mod amount knob is bipolar- center position is off; turning the knob to the right applies positive modulation, and turning to the left applies negative modulation.
Signal Input- Use this jack to patch in audio or control signals to be controlled by the VCA.
Signal Output- The VCA output signal.
